42' Catalina MKII-1995-$105,000

This Catalina 42 two-cabin Pullman model offers the traditional mid-ship placement of the owners stateroom, with hanging locker to starboard and spacious private head forward with shower stall. Second guest stateroom aft is spacious with storage locker and private access to aft head. Aft starboard side head has a manual Jabsco marine head, sink in molded vanity and a handheld shower. Galley aft to port, main salon has pedestal circular dinette table with settee and nav station to starboard. Teak and ash bulheads and trim. Teak & holly cabin sole. Newport by Dickinson diesel heater in salon. Weems & Platt clock and barometer.

The sailing performance of the Catalina 42 is very respectable and she has taken her share of silver in club racing. The sail area/displacement ratio of the 42 is a conservative 17, the displacement/length ratio is 196 and the PHRF rating of a stock Catalina 42 is usually around 105.

As would be expected the deep keel version is slightly more weatherly than the wing keel version. However, in ten knots of true wind, she should make an honest 6 knots pointing to within 32 to 34 degrees of the apparent wind.

The Mk II model rudder was changed to a deeper, higher aspect form which owners report improves handling and performance.

The Catalina 42 is a handsome boat that offers solid performance, excellent accommodations and good value for buyers looking for a cruiser or club racer in this size range.

As one of the most successfully designed and produced yachts, the Catalina 42 continues to gain a strong following of loyal boat owners. This fully-evolved boat, the Catalina 42 has become the benchmark for other manufacturers and it is truly, "an idea whose time has come!"

To date there are several Catalina 42 Fleets located around the world with additional Fleets being planned currently. Your involvement with one of the many Catalina 42 Fleets would certainly be a positive move to provide information, support, and the sharing of ideas. You can be the next member of the very active Fleet here in Southern California.
